The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden @ SkyAvenue Genting

Genting Highlands has always been a popular destination in Malaysia and even with the ongoing pandemic, people are somehow still attracted to it. I vaguely remember how Starbucks was a must while in Genting (it's oddly satisfying to have cold drinks when it's chilly) and food was always expensive during my teenage days.

Luckily things seem to have changed for the better even though it's generally still pricier in Genting as compared to other places, but I feel that it's not as ridiculous as before? Since we were certain that we didn't want to eat at any restaurant chain that is available in KL/ Selangor (because you know, too mainstream), we visited the Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden in SkyAvenue, which originated from the UK and is famous for its fish and chips with over 90 years of history!

Cod Fish & Chips - Legendary (RM58)

Harry Ramsden in Genting serves two types of fish: cod and haddock. Cod is light and flaky with low fat content, whereas haddock is flavorful and chunky with a slightly sweet taste. The fish comes in three sizes (regular, large and legendary) and you also get to choose a side: gravy, mushy peas and curry sauce.

Apparently it's more worthwhile to order legendary - my friends (1 guy + 1 girl) shared it and the portion is big enough to provide them "fuel" to go shopping for the rest of the day. As for the taste, my friends had mixed reactions about it so I guess while it's nice, it's nothing to shout about?

On a side note, you have to try CorBlimey if you haven't, that was amazinggg and it's available in Klang Valley.

Avocado Toastie (RM23)

Avocado Toastie for me - grilled sourdough with smashed avocado, tomato and feta crumbs. I've tried avocado toast in many cafes due to my diet and I think the price is somewhat reasonable (it's Genting after all).

Warm Chocolate Brownie (RM15)

Those with a sweet tooth can try the Warm Chocolate Brownie, where the combination of brownie and vanilla ice cream usually doesn't go wrong. We enjoyed this and I have to say the vanilla ice cream is really something - it didn't melt for a long time while we were busy taking photos of our food hahaha.

All prices are inclusive of service tax. If you're looking for a decent place with good food and service plus reasonable prices, it's worth exploring Harry Ramsden. I think we only waited for less than 10 minutes for all our food to arrive. In case you're in a hurry, you can have one to go from its takeaway counter next door.
